Discontinuous Galerkin finite element method for shallow two-phase flows

We present a discontinuous Galerkin finite element method for two depth-averaged two-phase flow models. One of these models contains nonconservative products for which we developed a discontinuous Galerkin finite element formulation in Rhebergen et al. (2008) J. Comput. Phys. 227, 1887-1922. The other model is a new depth-averaged two-phase flow model we introduce for shallow two-phase flows th...

Stabilized Finite Element Method in Particulate Two-phase Flows Stabilized Nite Element Method in Particulate Two-phase Ows

A stabilized nite element method for the solution of particulate two-phase ows is presented. In this method the solution of the volume fractions is de-coupled from the solution of the momentum equations. For the solution of the volume fraction SD method with discontinuity capturing operator is used. The functionality of the method is shown in two example cases.

Simulating Two-Phase Viscoelastic Flows Using Moving Finite Element Methods

Phase-field models provide a way to model fluid interfaces as having finite thickness; the interface between two immiscible fluids is treated as a thin mixing layer across which physical properties vary steeply but continuously. One of the main challenges of this approach is in resolving the sharp gradients at the interface. In this paper, moving finite-element methods are used to simulate inte...

The extended finite element method for two-phase and free-surface flows: A systematic study

In immiscible two-phase flows, jumps or kinks are present in the velocity and pressure fields across the interfaces of the two fluids. The extended finite element method (XFEM) is able to reproduce such discontinuities within elements. Robust and accurate interface capturing schemes with no restrictions on the interface topology are thereby enabled. This paper investigates different enrichment ...
